Engine Remanufacturing Procedures
- Disassembly and inspection — All bearings, seals, gaskets, pistons, valves, valve guides, springs, cylinder liners, freeze plugs, and pin bushings are discarded.
- All remaining components are thoroughly cleaned.
- After cleaning, parts that cannot be repaired to within OEM specifications are discarded.
- Block, crankshaft and cast cylinder heads are magnafluxed.
- Aluminum cylinder heads are pressure tested.
- All crack repairs are done using time-tested repair procedures.
- Cylinder heads are completely reconditioned, including new valves, seats, seals, guides or liners, and springs.
- Block line bore is checked and repaired if necessary. New liners are installed when applicable. Cylinders are bored and honed.
- Camshaft is either reground or replaced with new.
- Connecting rods are reconditioned.
- Crankshaft is reground or polished.
- All machining tolerances are verified before engine goes to building process.
- Engine is assembled using parts that meet or exceed OEM specs.
- Engine is "HOT RUN & LOAD" tested. This means that the engine is started and ran for a minimum of 30 minutes, under a LOAD, at several RPM ranges, at operating temperature. Testing procedures include checks for noise, leaks, smoke, compression, oil pressure at low idle and governed speed, and proper valve train lubrication. Valves are properly adjusted, and cylinder head bolts are re-torqued. Test results are included with every engine, and permanently recorded in our computer system.
- Engine is prepped for painting. All internal components are protected from paint contamination. Engine is then painted, bagged, and placed in a custom built wood shipping crate. A copy of engine test results is included with every reman engine.
Engine Core Return & Warranty
Core Return Policy
Cores must be returned fully assembled. Ask your Sales Representative about possible exceptions. Cores returned are subject to reductions in credit if they are found to have any bad or unserviceable major components.
Cores received by CharNor will be required to pass the following inspections to be eligible for full credit:
- Major components must be serviceable
- No parts or components missing
- Cores must be of same size and configuration as the remanufactured engine supplied by CharNor.
Cores that have passed the above inspections will be given full credit. All others will be subject to deductions based upon repair time or replacement cost of the component(s) that are bad.
We feel we have the most liberal core return policy in the industry. We guarantee at least 50% credit will be issued when you return a complete like engine core. Every effort will be made to keep core deductions as low as possible. We have a full service on-sight machine shop able to repair the most difficult components, and a large inventory of good used components to keep your cost LOW.
Cores must be returned in the same container that the remanufactured engine was shipped in or be subject to a $100.00 charge.
Engine Warranty Policy
CharNor warrants each remanufactured engine to be free from defects in material or workmanship for a period of one (1) year with unlimited hour usage. Oil leaks are covered for ninety (90) days.
The warranty is subject to the following conditions:
- A certified technician must install engine.
- Engine must be properly maintained, including regular oil changes and replacement of intake and filters.
- For any warranty claims made after 30 days from installation, service records must be provided that include installation and maintenance information.
- If CharNor is asked to participate in a labor reimbursement warranty claim, we reserve the right to bring the engine to our remanufacturing facility in Milan, Illinois, for inspection and investigation for the cause of failure.
- Some circumstances will require an oil sample analysis be performed as an aid in determining cause of failure.
- This warranty is limited to replacing any parts returned to CharNor and which, upon examination are found to be defective. Also, during the warranty period, CharNor will pay the cost of reasonable labor (not to exceed $500.00). No time will be allowed for travel or equipment rental.
- CharNor must authorize any warranty claim prior to beginning work.
- Disassembly of the engine without approval from CharNor will void the warranty.
Warranty is void if heat tab(s) are melted or removed.
CharNor is not responsible for failures resulting from improper installation, operator abuse, or lack of proper maintenance or reasonable operation.
